Durham Conservation Commission
October 16, 2024; 6:30-8 pm
Attendees: Sam Cuccaro, Jess Costa, Roberta Brezinski, Michael Friendly, Jeff Tindall
Bat Detectors
• Jess reached out to Corey Stearns, the state’s Bat Biologist
o He said that while the data we collected is helpful, changes to BwH mapping are triggered by high vernacular data
o Maine is working with Virginia Tech to incorporate bat data for BwH, could be a few years until the data is added to state maps
• RRCT is okay with us putting detectors on their properties next year. They just ask that we give them a heads up
Oak Fell Subdivision Site Walk
• Following the site walk, we will identify RP areas that overlay or are nearby to the proposed subdivision
CRP Grant Application
• Roberta and Jess attended the recent Select Board meeting to inform them that we are using GPCOG to write our updated proposal and reminded them that this is a no-match grant, and the potential funding has increased
• Kelly Renberg (GPCOG) suggested that we don’t include any Scope of Work on the application and that the application should cover everything we need
• If FB Environmental can provide ~5 key points to include in the app, we can share with GPCOG
• Some grammatical changes needed in the proposal as well as a couple of other edits
• Note: $8K is the consultant’s admin budget (not the entire cost of the consulting (Jess to edit that)
• GPCOG added E3 (Watershed Plan) to the application
o This could create/update a watershed plan, identify water quality priorities and adaptation options, management of flood areas
• Kelly also suggested a 24-month timeline instead of 12
o Jess to confirm that we prefer the 24-month timeline
• The application doesn’t mention anything about the new Agricultural Commission, would be good to get them included in the application regarding partnerships/collaborators • Application deadline is December 17th and we’ll need Jerry to sign it
o We’ll aim to have it completed by mid-November
• Roberta to identify spelling/grammatical errors in the application that should be addressed prior to submission. She will track changes in the doc for review
