Durham Conservation Commission
December 18, 2024; 6:30 – 8:00 pm; Eureka Center
DCC Attendees: Sam Cuccaro, Jess Costa, Roberta Brezinski, Mike Friendly, Jeff Tindall
1. October meeting minutes approved (Jess to send to Kimberly)
2. Update on Me Won't Wait Grant application: submitted with a lot of additional content (more detailed plan and how will improve Durham’s climate resiliency)
3. Planning Board Meeting on BESS/contract zoning rescheduled for Jan 11, 2025
a. DCC involvement with BESS ordinance research in 2025 if asked to support? Yes, shouldn’t be a big lift if working with Planning Board on an ordinance
4. Bowie Hill Subdivision
a. Jess to check with John Talbot if comment period still open
b. DCC to draft comment letter endorsing MDIFW letter to the developers re: inland wading bird and waterfowl area and no clearing within 250 ft of the upland zone from wetland edge; and time of year tree clearing restrictions for bats
5. Ferry Ridge Subdivision/project off Newell Brook application postponed
6. NE Regional Director of American Rivers Andrew Fisk reached out to Micheal to request coordination with DCC on a potential Runaround Pond fish passage project
a. Runaround Pond is the upper reach of Chandler Brook
b. Fish passage would allow extension of the alewives run that would be restored after the two Yarmouth dams are removed
c. American Rivers would like a zoom call with DCC
d. DCC concerned about how a fish passage would affect the existing water level at the pond and complications of removing the old dam (historical impacts)
7. Online survey for potential Town Center Project
8. Next meeting January 15, 2025 (revised to January 22 after meeting)
