Durham Conservation Commission

April 22, 2026; 6:30 – 8:00 pm; Eureka Center

DCC Attendees: Sam Cuccaro, Jess Costa, Roberta Brezinski, Mike Friendly, Jeff Tindall, Kelly Waddle

1. March meeting notes approved

2. Update on Bates game camera study

3. Draft Newsblast alewives (Sam will send to Kimberly with photos)

4. Draft Newsblast open space vs conservation easements

5. Open Space Plan next steps (summer outreach event options to build community relationships)

• August 22 First Congregational Church Community Celebration – Jess will reach out to GPCOG to reuse posterboards from February community meeting

• July 26 Open Farm Day – check in with agricultural committee at May 28 meeting to see what summer farm events are happening

• Durham school - no events before end of school year

a. Could work with science teachers and/or green team (Maggie Johnson)

b. Juliet can help coordinate with the 7th/8th grade science teachers

c. Students could help create a photo book of their favorite natural spaces starting in September

d. Possibly reward top three submissions by including in Newsblast

e. Jess to check with GPCOG on an informational brochure to provide teachers by the end of school year so they can think about incorporating the photo book into next fall’s curriculum

6. May 28 meeting with Agricultural Committee and Town Reps/Select Board (5pm)

a. Jess to check in with GPCOG for a meeting agenda

b. Roberta to email agenda to Town staff (e.g., Town Planner)

7. May 6 public hearing on new subdivision (Ivy Ridge) at next Planning Board meeting (630 pm)

a. No wetland impacts anticipated

b. DCC to provide a letter to Planning Board with comments prior to the hearing

8. Oakfell Road Subdivision

a. Site wetland survey may have missed wetlands

b. May have drainage issues

c. DCC provided a letter to Planning Board previously but may want to revise/resend

9. Possible Maine moratorium on data centers

a. Process for a moratorium in Durham if Governor doesn’t pass state moratorium

b. Process to include data centers in contract zoning

10. 2026 Runaround Pond bat acoustic study – set up on May 20th 5 pm at RAP boat launch

b. Town/State land (will need to contact Select Board for permission)
