Durham Conservation Commission

June 24, 2026; 6:30 – 8:00 pm; Eureka Center

DCC Attendees: Sam Cuccaro, Jess Costa, Roberta Brezinski, Mike Friendly, Jeff Tindall

1. Debrief of May 28 Open Space Plan focus group meeting

2. Juliet and Roberta met with the DSC principal about student engagement for OSP

A. Third graders to take pics/do drawings of favorite Durham places (DCC can provide disposable cameras)

B. GPCOG/FBE to present to students next fall about OSP

C. Could make a survey for 7th and 8th graders

3. Roberta spoke with Linda Bowie about August 22 church event

A. Ask Shannon for handouts and poster/sticker boards

4. OSP goals and strategies and parcel matrix

A. Jess to email attachments to the group to review

5. What parts of Town drain into Runaround Pond and relevant requirements

A. Town Planner map showing the affected areas and the DEP Phosphorus Management manual in the Land Use Ordinance

B. Provide map to FBE for existing conditions, Runaround Pond is vulnerable to development run off

C. Incorporate into comprehensive plan/land ordinance

6. GPCOG photos request for OSP draft

7. Runaround pond passage alternatives study and grant funding

A. Michael Brandimarte presented overview of fish passage in Royal River and Chandler Brook

B. Will be several future grant opportunities

C. Still collecting information at this time about Chandler Brook and Runaround Pond (USFWS River channel study)

D. DCC to arrange time for Michael to give presentation to select board and town staff

E. Michael will connect DCC with state water quality monitoring contacts to start monitoring in Runaround Pond
