| TOWN OF DURHAM | Smoking Polic ! In accordance with the provisions of the Workplace Smoking Act of 1985 and M.R.S.A. 1541-1545 enacted by PL 1993, Chapter 342 and effective January 1, 1994, the Town of Durham has prohibited the smoking of cigarettes, cigars, pipes or other objects giving off smoke in municipal facilities accessible to the public. Medical evidence implicates smoking as a serious hazard to the health of the smoker and non-smoker. Continued research suggests that passive smoke is as dangerous to the non-smoker as it is to the smoker. In keeping with the Town of Durham’s intent to provide a safe and healthy work environment, smoking is prohibited within all Town-owned buildings including offices, hallways, waiting rooms, restrooms, meeting rooms and all community areas. Smoking is also prohibited in any Town-owned vehicle. This policy applies to all employees, citizens and other visitors. The Smoking Policy described above is adopted and implemented this 13 day of : Vo plenber , 2011.
