SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE - Meeting Minutes for 10/21/24 Present: Curtis Dimock, Juliet Caplinger, Claire Ross, Todd Beaulieu, Milt Simon Calvin Beaumier, Deborah Oliver
Meeting called to order at 6:35 p.m. inside Eureka Community Center.
Meeting Minutes from 9/16/24 were approved (2-0-3). Due to their absence from 9/16 meeting, three members abstained from voting.
Committee reviewed latest By-Laws draft. Language was updated and typos corrected. A vote to accept By-Laws will be on Committee’s next meeting agenda.
Committee reviewed “Apparel Impact” recycling program. A collection bin has been placed at the Fire Station. Public announcement of program forthcoming via Town’s weekly E-Blast. Committee will recommend to Selectboard that Calvin Beaumier be named as the program’s Point-of-Contact (POC).
Discussion regarding potential Thermostat Recycling program. It was determined that this program will be easy to set up. No action taken.
Discussion regarding Food Waste Recycling program. It was decided that the Committee was not yet ready to move forward with this.
Discussion regarding potential Paint Recycling program. It was agreed that having a local drop- off location might prove advantageous vs. out-of-town paint stores. Chair offered to gather additional program info prior to Committee’s next meeting with the objective of preparing a recommendation for the Selectboard’s consideration.
Discussion regarding the current billing process between Casella and the Town of Durham. It was agreed that more detailed information, such as weekly collection amounts, would be helpful for planning and forecasting purposes. Calvin is to request said info from the Town Manager.
Committee reviewed an invitation received from the Town of Pownal to hold a joint meeting to explore the idea of combining the two towns’ recycling efforts. Chair is to invite Town of Pownal representatives to Committee’s next meeting to learn what their town is proposing.
Next Meeting: Monday, December 9th at the Fire Station. 6:30 p.m.
