Meeting Minutes from 9/8/25 were approved

Committee By-Laws were signed

Resignation accepted from Committee member Claire Ross. Selectboard has already posted announcement regarding new committee opening. Phyliss Brannon will be offered option to change status from Alternate to Member.

Calvin and Deb reviewed meeting which they recently had with Town Manager. It was learned that Casella now plans to switch to Automated Trash Pickup starting in March, 2026. A company representative from Casella has been scheduled to attend committee’s December meeting.

Deb shared copies of spreadsheet created to compare current costs of trash pickup (as of 11/2025) vs. projected 2026 automated trash pickup costs (with & without a potential Garbage-to-Garden Compost program).

A second spreadsheet was shared that offered a brief review of the solid waste programs currently in place by other similar-sized towns.

Committee completed the “weighting” spreadsheet started during the September meeting, comparing three options being considered by the Town: (1) maintaining services with the current vendor; (2) owning our own Transfer Station; (3) sharing the management of a Transfer Station with a nearby town. A score of 1-5 (low to high importance) was assigned to each of the three options, pertaining to 10 criteria. Following completion of this exercise, it became clear that maintaining the status quo with our current vendor was the most favorable option.

The earlier-discussed idea regarding a townwide survey of residents was tabled, as it was learned that the Selectboard wants to hear the committee’s overview before such a survey is considered.
