SUBDIVISION SOLID WASTE CONTAINER STORAGE ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGE

Summary The proposed Ordinance changes will require subdivision applicants to submit a “readiness to serve” letter from the waste management company indicating their willingness to do curbside pickup within the subdivision. If internal collection is not possible, the developer will need to submit a detailed waste management plan showing where and how trash and recycling will be handled in the subdivision. Specific prohibitions on container placement along roads outside the subdivision will be added to the Ordinance.

Why the Change?

The Town has curbside pickup of solid waste and recycling through a contract with a regional solid waste management company. In the past, that company refused to collect containers within some approved subdivisions, resulting in lot purchasers placing their containers along the main road outside the subdivisions. Beyond the inconvenience placed on homeowners, placement of multiple containers along busy roads at the subdivision entrance creates a safety hazard for motorists and subdivision residents alike.
